“Leading” VS. “Bleeding” Edge

Naturally, our stable of products includes all the tried-and-true technologies one normally considers and those continue to be the right answer a fairly high percentage of the time. But today’s tried-and-true technologies are yesterday’s new-kids-on-the-block. At ValuLink, we shy away from the “bleeding” edge where technologies sometimes are released before their time. We are constantly on the look-out for the next generation of products and the advantages they can deliver. The “leading” edge is comprised of young technologies that have proven themselves ready to go. In the way of a couple of examples, back when Frame Relay was still in vogue, we were transitioning to MPLS and while classic integrated pipes were hot, we were delivering dynamic. Today, many are still recommending “comfortable” technologies in instances where there are better answers simply because they don’t understand what SIP (session initiated protocol) can do. We’ve been successfully dropping in SIP trunks around the nation for the past few years.

A Peek Ahead

The reality is that without SIP, there would be no VoIP (Voice-over-Internet Protocol) and although the term itself may be young in our lexicon, VoIP has been around for quite some time, especially in the realm of long distance call delivery. Now it threatens to put an end to long distance charges themselves. The technology is sound and Quality of Service (QOS) can be guaranteed. The trick is finding the providers who can deliver it properly the first time every time with service level guarantees that are industry leading across all product lines. Ironically, while others are trying to do exactly that in order to deliver high-quality VoIP products to their customers, we’re already tracking the next generation where “V” is replaced with “S” and “Service-over-Internal-Protocol” opens all new product sets that can be delivered anywhere in the world where bandwidth is available.

But the technology itself isn’t important. Understanding the customer’s needs and developing the best solution is important and that’s where ValuLink shines.
